I only bought Amla and Brahmi. But I plan to mix it with Clove & Olive therapy by Africa’s best organics, virgin olive oil, and hot water. wash it out with giovanni deep moisture shampoo/conditioner. Style with shea butter and sweet almond oil
I did a kind of deep conditioner / treatment on my hair because my hair was over shedding due to the cold weather were I live. I mix amla powder with amla and jasmine oil, black strap molasses a bit of megatek, left it on overnight and in the morning washed it out and my hair felt so good, strong and moisturized. I was surprised but my hair stop over shedding. I’m not consistant with the herbs, I just don’t have the time. Yeah these herbs do wonders for the hair.
I’ve never heard of these items. Where can they be purchased? Have you just started using this method or have you used it all through your 5 yr journey?
is this your regular hair regimin?? are all of your hair products natural?? do you use any store bought shampoos conditioners or moisturizers. (Not including natural oils and stuff like that..) do you think that this has contributed to your healthy growth??
Everyone’s hair is different & needs different care, etc. I think using a watery version of this instead of a paste may be the reason for the drying effect not being all that noticeable. However, it’s always good to be on the safe side & start with small measurements & work your way up if need be or just use somethingelse altogether.
I have tried using soapnuts (aritha) in higher concentration for doing my wash & it is pretty good; however, am use to the convenience of detergents….
Thanks for the info, I know that especially Aritha & Shikakai can be quite strong & I am sure it can be drying that’s why I encouraged others watching to play around with the ratios. My hair is very well oiled before I do this, not only from coconut oiling, but from Shea butter use during the week, so I don’t experience all that much of a drying effect & once I condition my hair is soft afterwards.
Hey Sera! Not trying to tell you how to take care of your hair at all. But, I’m hoping that this tidbit will be beneficial for at least one person out there. I noticed that you are using alot of aritha and shikaki. Aritha is very strong, so strong that you can wash your clothes with it. Using both can and will be very drying to your hair. When I do use Aritha (not to often actually) I use only 1/2 tsp.
It turned out great, I experimented with these herbs last year, so I know what ratios work well for me. I love the cleansing (feels just as clean as it would with shampoo). After I conditioned my hair felt soft & still feels pretty soft. So I will most definitely be adding this herbal wash to my all natural hair care regimen.
You are welcome. Sorry to hear about the Aritha. Did you oil really well with coconut oil or something? I find that the coconut oil helps lessen that dry effect & once I condition, my hair feels great!!
thanks for your recipe and how-to.. ive made several versions and my hair just doesnt like the thick paste.. i alsp had crazy dryness using aritha, so thats out of my recipe now.. i mix in a little conditioner with this and it works very well, i just have to remember to only apply to scalp cause my hair doesnt like it unless its super watery
It smells a little earthy to me – it doesn’t bother me at all. I do a very thorough rinse so that help a lot & plus am using a watery mix of these herbs, so the smell is not as strong as it could be. And no, I did not add any essential oils to the mix. HTH
Thanks for this video, Sera! I’ve found soapnut powder, which was very gritty, and amla hair oil, not the powder, but not the other stuff.
I would love to use these methods, b/c I don’t want to use shampoo anymore.
Koala, you can get Blackstrap Molasses from Caring/Watsons/Guardian Pharmacy.
The brand is called BioGreen. Just ask the salesperson when you’re at the pharmacy.
I’m taking it for my premature grey hair and there are signs that they are turning brown. I’m keeping my fingers crossed and I hope it works for you as well. By the way, i’m taking black sesame powder and Vitamin B supplements at the same time. Good Luck!

It’s probably ok to mix in some Amla with your henna (a tsp or so); however, am not too sure about mixing in oils with your henna.

Thank you for sharing this vid. Now that I’ve “mastered” the herbal hair rinses, I am ready to move on to the ayurvedic herbs for cleansing.

It looks great! How does it smell? Are you going to add an essential oil, like lavendar or rose?
I’m thinking of trying the lavendar shea butter.

I mixed brahmi & amla paste earlier today I think I’ll try your method with the applicator bottle next time. Thanks for the tip
