What Are Some Cheap Alternatives For Getting Protein In Your Diet?
I’m not a vegetarian, but with rising prices everywhere, I have had to cut down on the grocery shopping budget. Unfortunately, that means cutting down on the amount of meat I eat. What are some ways of getting the protein I need in my diet?
Thank you!

Kidney beans, lima beans, pinto beans, navy beans. Beans are a good source of protein. You can make many different dishes or soups with beans as to vary the way that you eat them.

I’m vegetarian and I usually get my protein through tofu (not the pre-flavoured variety…cheaper when you do it yourself) and soy meat (comes as dry TVP, also very cheap stuff).
There’s also beans & nuts (almost any kind) and vegetables like spinach/broccoli/snow peas. Also, I hear that eggs are great (don’t eat them myself so not sure about how cheap it is).
Once you can flavour it right, it’s just as filling =]
Hope that helps!

My wife and I are having to cut back on our food spending as well. We try to buy ground beef or turkey in bulk but sometimes it’s still way too expensive. My wife is hypoglycemic too so the doctors tell us to be sure she get lots of protein in her diet.
I just found this protein website that has a lot of info about different kinds of protein supplements. Apparently you can get protein from whey and soy too if you don’t like taking pills or powder. Check it out:
