I believe Bluetooth generally is only good up to 30ft roaming. Many headsets that use 2.4 GHz wireless may be good up to 200ft or so roaming. Keeping in mind that 2.4 Ghz band is highly susceptable to RFI interference from other devices like Wireless-G routers and 2.4 GHz cordless phones. Voice quality is probably about the same, keeping in mind that 2.4 GHz RFI interference can destroy any voice quality that exists.
I recently purchased the Plantronics “Calisto Pro” Wireless phone system. It is really two phones in one.
The base unit plugs into a regular telephone outlet (or in my case, my VoIP phone adapter jack). The base cordless phone (looks like a small cell phone) is a DECT 6.0 phone (1.6 GHz band) and is Wireless up to 200 ft from base unit.
Also included is a Bluetooth Headset which links to the cordless phone. So, if I want to raom farther than 30ft, I just strap on the cordless phone to my belt, and wear the Bluetooth Headset on my ear. Now I can roam with the Bluetooth headset up to about 200 ft.
The Base Unit also has a USB cable to plug into my PC. Now, the cordless and/or Headset will be connected to Skype VoIP calls. It is designed to work easily with Skype, but I also use it with any of my other VoIP Softphones on my PC too.
It’s a great system. The down side…. cost. It’s pricy.
