  1. feeding raw is actually cheaper pound per pound than kibble. I have 4 cats, and feed them raw. They get chicken backs, legs, wings, and organ meats and bones. They are healthier than kibble fed cats, and i have saved a ton of money

  2. Why are you giving that crap anyway? crystals? LOL That stuff is just asking for trouble. it isdry foods that cause the drystals to form in the first place if your cat has the bad crystals at all. if the urine sample isn’t tested immediately then crystals start to form amd a reading can be false very easily.
Stop feeding dry food crap and feed a healthy canned food. It will be much cheaper in the long run
Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health
Contrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.
Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean? Is the first ingrdiant a muscle meat like chicken or meal or other things?http://www.catinfo.org/#Learn_How_To_Rea…
Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms
The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process them. Also, Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food but in
Dry, 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don’t use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.
You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn’t have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Does a hard pretzel clean your teeth or do pieces of it get stuck? http://www.felinefuture.com/nutrition/bp…

  3. it depends on why you were feeding that prescription food.
either way science diet is not the best food.
i like Innova Evo for my cat, but it might be too high in protein if your cat(s) have a medical intolerance for high protein (such as kidney disease). but it’s perfect for fat cats or cats with diabetes.
it’s a high quality, no grain, low carb food. it’s really as good as (if not better) most prescription foods for general good nutrition and weight loss. if you don’t believe me, check out the testimonials on their site.
    here’s the food:http://www.evopet.com/products/default.a…
    here are the testimonials:http://www.evopet.com/community/testimon…
and here’s their ‘where to buy’:http://www.naturapet.com/where-to-buy/
it’s about 18 bucks for a 6.6 pound bag, but i think it’s worth it.

  4. I agree with Ken and Chartreuse Boots. Have you looked at the ingredients on the side of the c/d bag? These are the same ingredients found in most dry food formulas (Science Diet included)..rice,corn, wheat, meat by-products, animal fat, but no honest to goodness meat. Since your problem is with crystals, there shouldn’t be a problem with you changing to a food high in protein, ie, meat.
The problem is your cats are not getting enough water. Cats are not big water drinkers, so they get most of it from the foods the eat and especially when only eating dry food.
My suggestion is to read the information they have provided above and this link which talks about urinary tract problems. After you have researched for yourself and knowing your cats’ health issues, make the changes you feel comfortable with. Try it for a couple of weeks or so. Watch your cats closely for signs of problems urinating.
Feeding a canned diet with water added would be better than the dry. Also, read about the water fountains. They may encourage kitties to drink more water.
    Purrs to you and kitties.

  5. I agree with the others who have said that CD is crap, it really is! The ingredients are just to meet a number guideline and don’t provide quality nutrients. Plus many of the ingredients are possible allergens.
Second, if you are feeding CD dry, that is a no-no when it comes to crystals as well as it can dehydrate your cat and worsen the issue.
Feed a food that is high in moisture and protein and low in fillers like wheat and corn.

  6. Okay, I’m sorry to disagree a little bit, but Hills prescription diet c/d is specially formulated for animals with certain medical needs!!! C/d is usually fed to cats with a history of crystals in their urine, or have had bladder stones. Your vet should also carry it in a canned variety also (RIGHT NOW THE NEWEST FORMULA IS CALLED C/D MULTICARE-IT COMES IN DRY AND CANNED, AND THE CANS COME IN REGULAR FLAVOR, CHICKEN, AND SEAFOOD FLAVORS) I’m not so sure I would switch my cat’s diet without consulting my vet first-hopefully you have enough trust in your vet to get an honest opinion-I would at least try to feed just the cat or cats that need the c/d food and feed the others a regular diet. I know the prescription food is so expensive, but if it is helping your cat’s medical problems, I don’t think I would change it. WHY CHANGE A GOOD THING? It is true nowadays that veterinarians are recommending a diet higher in canned food, than dry food. GOOD LUCK TO YOU!! I have 4 kitties, I know how hard it is when they have to be on a special diet, but you have to give the best possible care you can-they deserve it!!!

  7. Thats fine Hill’s is nothing but packaged junk. Try feeding raw. It’s the best diet you can feed. Actually mine get a ground up rabbit meat, bone, organ, and tripe blend from a website called hare today-gone tommorow. And on the weekends she gets whole fuzzy mice(fuzzy mice are baby mice just beggining to grow fur) frozen from my local reptile feed store.
