Will a smartphone work without a carrier?

  1. Well, cellphones/smartphones typically work if it has a carrier. If there is not a carrier for it, then it won’t be usable. You can still turn on the phone, but it will just not become usable.

  2. yes it will work without a service but you will not be able to use the internet or GPS, beacuse gps downloads maps off the net instantaniously, they cannot be stored on the device itself

  3. It will work for all non data/phone features. Almost all smartphones allow this so that they can be used on airplanes/in hospitals.

However, you can pick up an AT&T prepaid sim card for it and for about $20 a month you can get unlimited internet without having a contract as long as you have an unlocked GSM phone.
